The functional requirements for a workspace and a meeting area guided the planning diagram. The entrance axis is utilised as the dividing element between the two main functions and the custom furniture are placed strategically to accentuate the two spatial entities.
The sculptural timber structure partially covers the ceiling and existing bearing structure, fluidly unfolding within the space and resembling to ocean floor.
The organic form functions as a fluid, unifying element within the space.
The juxtaposition between the fluid and organic timber structure and the clear, prismatic furniture is the key element of the design approach. The contrast between the two systems is subtly highlighted by different types of timber selected, as solid maple has been used for the furniture, and ply wood for the organic structure.
The furniture address the functional needs and circulation aspects of the space. Linear, geometrical forms define the enclosed and more private workspace, while the meeting area, designed as a round table, is permeable by circulation and opens up to the space.
The duality of the interior clearly manifests in the making process of the two components. While the furniture have been manufactured with traditional carpentry craftsmanship, the fluid timber structure is the result of a sculptural approach and digital fabrication.
